While driving home from the store last week Naomi casually said "My tooth popped out." I said "Okay." and kept singing until I realized what she had really just said. Looking through the rearview mirror I said "Let me see your mouth Naomi" to which she happily obliged after asking for a tissue. There was a bloody little cavity where her tooth had been just moments earlier.
All of this was great, except she couldn't find her tooth! The van was littered with crumbs but knowing her disappointment at not being able to put a tooth under her pillow for the Tooth Fairy, I promised her that we would look for it the following Saturday when we cleaned out the van.
Now we are at Saturday. The snow was only about 3 inches deep, the temperature was 27 when we started cleaning out the van. With flashlights in hand and determination on our faces we searched, and searched and searched. After searching for 10 minutes we admitted defeat and began to vacuum the van. Then, what do you know, WE FOUND THE TOOTH! It had been stuck in some crevice in the seat Naomi was sitting in when it popped out. That tricky little tooth had fallen out of the crevice as I was vacuuming the seat. Needless to say, Naomi was over joyed.
Naomi happily put her tooth in a sandwich bag, wrote her name on it and placed it under her pillow. Darn that tooth fairy... she forgot to put money under Naomi's pillow for two nights in a row! But lo and behold, on the third day Naomi woke up to find TWO WHOLE DOLLARS under her pillow.
There are a couple morals of this story:
#1: Seek and ye shall find.
#2: The tooth fairy pays extra when she finally remembers that your tooth has been under your pillow for two nights!
